Co-financing value: 10 113 750,00 PLN

Promotion of the project 3.2.2

Mpack Poland limited liability company is implementing the project entitled: “Implementation of innovative technology of ozone activation of polyethylene tubes for offset printing” under sub-measure 3.2.2 Credit for technological innovation from the Operational Programme “Intelligent Development” co-financed by the European Funds.

Project funding agreement: POIR.03.02.02-00-2845/21

The aim of the project is to strengthen the competitiveness and innovativeness of the company by implementing an innovative technology of ozone activation of polyethylene tubes before offset printing.

The project concerns the implementation of conducted research and development works.
The use of the new technology for surface activation of PE tubes will improve the product in the form of single-layer thermoplastic tubes made of polyethylene (PE) with an admixture of recycled polyethylene, designed for packaging consumer products such as creams, soaps, shampoos, etc., offered by the company, and will improve the overall process of tube production by

• increasing the strength and quality of the print (increasing the surface energy level of the substrate),
• disinfecting the surface of the manufactured tube – protecting the product in the logistic chain from pathogen transmission,
• activation of the surface of tubes both at the time of manufacture and of tubes previously activated and cut (secondary activation),
• elimination of the use of plasma, corona discharges and the open flame in explosive rooms,
• reducing NOx emissions to the environment through the use of ozone generation from pure oxygen or the use of concentrators increasing the proportion of oxygen in the air,
• ensuring uniformity of tube surface activation due to the gaseous form of the activating agent reaching the entire surface of the activated tube.

The total value of the project is 8 415 000,00 PLN
of which the maximum contribution of the European Funds is 3 786 750,00 PLN.

Thanks to the implementation of the above-mentioned EU projects, we are able to offer our customers a new quality in the form of:

An innovative way to directly apply a hologram to the surface of a polyethylene tube without using inks and labels

We offer a new innovative way to directly apply a hologram to the surface of a polyethylene tube without the use of inks and labels, which will contribute, among other things, to the greater popularization of packaging made from sugarcane-derived plastic and recycled plastic (PCR).

The packaging retains the properties of conventional polyethylene tubes and does not require special tooling for filling and sealing.

The tubes will be manufactured from recycled polyethylene, among other materials, and are intended mainly for direct packaging for the cosmetics and food industries.

The new product is easy to recycle and further improves the cost efficiency of our customers.

An innovative way of manufacturing printed, single-layer thermoplastic tubes with PREMIUM printing

We offer a new way of manufacturing single-layer thermoplastic tubes made of polyethylene (PE) doped with recycled polyethylene for packaging consumer products such as creams, soaps, shampoos, etc.

The new product is characterized by a much larger number of colours that can be used in flexographic printing. The purity of the tube’s surface and the degree of activation before printing affects the quality and reproduction of each subsequent colour.

We offer the use of 6 colours in flexographic printing.

The manufacturing process of single-layer thermoplastic tubes made of polyethylene is carried out in a processing line implementing the following processing steps: extrusion of a tube of a defined diameter and thickness using a single-screw extruder, calibration of the diameter of the polyethylene tube, thermo-shock annealing of the extruded tube material to impart the expected stiffness, cooling of the extruded tube in a bath of water at ambient temperature, drying of the surface of the extruded tube, cutting to size of polyethylene tubes by a linear knife, activation of the surface with a propane-butane gas torch to increase the free surface energy of the tubes, which guarantees proper adhesion to the ink, offset printing, screen printing or flexographic printing of polyethylene tubes, UV curing of the print using a UV lamp, aging of the tubes for final curing of the print.

Ozone-activated polyethylene tubes with improved print quality.

We would like to inform you that we have launched the production of polyethylene tubes for cosmetics, which have been improved in comparison with the products manufactured at our plant to date. The surface of these tubes is ozone-activated before printing, guaranteeing the product adequate adhesion and thus higher print quality and asepticity (in the supply chain).

The packaging is mainly intended for cosmetics (cosmetics industry) and food supplements (food industry).

Feature 1: Increased print durability.

As a result of the implementation of ozone activation technology for tubes, the strength of ink adhesion has increased. By improving this parameter, a significant improvement in print quality can be achieved, as the print will adhere better to the tube.

Feature 2: Uniformity of tube surface activation.

The implementation of the technology has ensured uniformity of tube surface activation due to the gaseous form of the activating agent reaching the entire surface of the activated tube.

This has the effect of reducing the incidence of insufficient local surface activation and the resulting spotting and smearing of prints compared to flame activation.

Feature 3: No burning or deep degradation of the PE tube.

Thanks to the use of ozone tube activation technology, cases of ‘burning’ of activated PE tubes by the gas flame and the resulting deterioration of product quality have been eliminated.

Feature 4: Disinfection of the tube surface.

The new technology makes it possible to produce and sell ozone-activated, and therefore disinfected, tubes and deliver them to the cosmetic manufacturer in this aseptic form. Ozone has bactericidal, fungicidal, protozoal and virostatic properties. The use of ozone activation of the tubes will guarantee that the packaging is completely safe (does not transmit pathogens) and contact with it does not carry any risk of contamination of the contents of the tube or the tube recipient’s production facility.
